The NPDN IT Center is housed in the Center for Environmental and Regulatory Information Systems (CERIS), which is a center within the Entomology Department at Purdue University. CERIS is home to a collection of projects focusing on plant health, pesticide information and registration, plant export/import requirements, and exotic pest tracking. 

The primary focus of the center is the security, reliability, and availability of the NPDN National Data Repository (NDR), the NPDN portal, and to address all IT needs, issues and challenges in the network. NPDN leadership relies on the center for guidance with respect to the use of NPDN IT resources.

To achieve this, the NPDN IT Center has the following roles:

  • Hosts the NPDN National Data Repository (NDR)
  • Coordinates with the different LIMS that diagnostic labs use to upload data to the NDR
  • Hosts and provides technical support to the NPDN Website npdn.org
  • Hosts the NPDN Lab Capacity and Impact evaluation
  • Hosts the annual IT meeting, where network IT needs and priorities are discussed
  • Develop tools and services that are needed to run different network programs

In addition to running the NPDN IT Center, CERIS also operates the following projects/programs:

  • BoilerApps develops innovative software solutions for Purdue University by collaborating with Purdue Pathmaker.   • The National Agricultural Pest Information System (NAPIS) is a database of the USDA Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey, which tracks the movements of exotic and invasive insect and plant pests throughout the United States. While full search access to the NAPIS database is limited to employees of the USDA and their cooperators, extensive information regarding agricultural pests of economic importance can be found at http://caps.ceris.purdue.edu.

  • The National Pesticide Information Retrieval System (NPIRS) is a collection of pesticide-related databases, applications, and websites whose primary purpose is to disseminate timely and accurate information at an affordable cost. The pesticide product data received from EPA and state regulatory agencies is the basis for all applications available.
